Domain Not Pointing to Your Website Print

  • domain, dns, not resolving

If your domain shows an error page or resolves to the wrong site, the DNS is not yet pointing to Vumacloud, or there is a misconfiguration.

Step 1 — Check DNS propagation

Go to whatsmydns.net and enter your domain. If the IP addresses shown do not match your Vumacloud hosting server IP (visible in the portal under Services → your service → IP Address), DNS propagation is not yet complete.

DNS propagation time

After changing nameservers or updating DNS records, propagation can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours depending on your domain registrar and global DNS caches.

Step 2 — Verify your DNS settings

  • If you changed nameservers: confirm the nameservers at your registrar exactly match those shown in the Vumacloud client portal for your service.
  • If you added an A record: confirm the IP in the A record matches your hosting server's IP exactly — even a single digit difference will cause the domain to resolve incorrectly.

Domain resolves but shows a default page

If the domain resolves to your server but shows a default cPanel page or a "Coming Soon" message, your website files are not in the correct location. Make sure your website is uploaded to the public_html folder. If you used the one-click installer to set up WordPress, verify that the installation directory is public_html itself and not a subfolder such as public_html/wordpress.
