Setting Up Email in Outlook, Gmail & Mobile Print

Vumacloud runs two separate email services. Check which one you have before you start — the server names and the setup method are different.

Hosting email — manual setup

Hosting mailboxes do not support autodiscover, autoconfig or Exchange/ActiveSync. Your mail client will not find the settings on its own, so choose the manual or "advanced" setup option and enter them yourself.

Settings

Encryption is required. Unencrypted connections are refused on every port. If your client offers "None" or "No encryption", the account will not connect.

Use IMAP, not POP3, unless you have a specific reason. IMAP keeps your mail on the server and in sync across every device; POP3 downloads it to one device and can remove it from the server.

Your outgoing server needs your password too. Tick "My outgoing server requires authentication" and use the same username and password as incoming. This is the most common cause of "I can receive but I cannot send".

Microsoft Outlook

1. Go to File → Add Account.
2. Enter your full email address, then click Advanced options and tick Let me set up my account manually. Click Connect.
3. Choose IMAP as the account type. Do not choose Exchange or Office 365 — hosting mailboxes do not support them.
4. Enter the incoming and outgoing settings from the table above.
5. Enter your mailbox password and click Connect.

iPhone / iPad

1. Go to Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Mail Account.
2. Enter your name, full email address, password and a description, then tap Next.
3. Select IMAP at the top of the screen.
4. Under both Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server, enter webmail.vumacloud.com as the host name and your full email address and password as the username and password. Fill in the outgoing section even though it says "optional".
5. Tap Next, then Save.
6. Open the account again, tap SMTP → Primary Server, set Use SSL on and the Server Port to 2525, then tap Done.

Android (Gmail app)

1. Open Gmail and go to Settings → Add account → Other.
2. Enter your full email address and tap Manual setup.
3. Choose Personal (IMAP).
4. Enter your password, then set the incoming server to webmail.vumacloud.com, port 993, security type SSL/TLS.
5. Set the outgoing server to webmail.vumacloud.com, port 2525, security type STARTTLS, and leave Require sign-in ticked.
6. Tap Next to finish.

Thunderbird

1. Go to Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account.
2. Enter your name, full email address and password, then click Configure manually — automatic detection will not find these settings.
3. Incoming: IMAP, webmail.vumacloud.com, port 993, SSL/TLS, normal password.
4. Outgoing: webmail.vumacloud.com, port 2525, STARTTLS, normal password.
5. Set the username to your full email address for both, then click Done.

Gmail (reading your mail in a Gmail account)

Gmail on the web can collect your hosting mail over POP3 only. Go to Settings → See all settings → Accounts and Import → Check mail from other accounts → Add a mail account, enter your full email address, then use webmail.vumacloud.com, port 995, and tick Always use a secure connection (SSL). To send as your address, add it under Send mail as with server webmail.vumacloud.com, port 2525, and TLS.

VumaMail — automatic setup

VumaMail is a full Microsoft Exchange replacement. It publishes autodiscover and autoconfig records, so in almost every client you only enter your email address and password and the correct settings are applied for you. Mail, calendars, contacts and tasks sync across all your devices.

1. In Outlook, choose File → Add Account, enter your full email address and click Connect.
2. Enter your password when prompted. Outlook detects the settings automatically.
3. On iPhone or Android, add the account as Exchange and enter your email address and password. If you are asked for a server, enter mail.vumacloud.com.

If you ever need to configure VumaMail by hand:

• Incoming (IMAP): mail.vumacloud.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
• Outgoing (SMTP): mail.vumacloud.com, port 587, STARTTLS
• Mobile sync (Exchange ActiveSync): mail.vumacloud.com
