Most web applications — WordPress, Joomla, WooCommerce — require a MySQL database. Here is how to create and manage databases in cPanel.

Creating a new database

  1. In cPanel, scroll to the Databases section and click MySQL Databases.
  2. Under Create New Database, enter a database name (e.g. mysite) and click Create Database.
  3. Scroll to MySQL Users. Under Add New User, enter a username and strong password, then click Create User.
  4. Under Add User To Database, select the user and the database you created, then click Add.
  5. On the privileges screen, click All Privileges, then Make Changes.

Important: cPanel automatically prefixes your database and username with your cPanel account name. If your cPanel username is acme and you create a database called mysite, the actual database name will be acme_mysite. Use this full prefixed name in your application's configuration file.

Browsing and editing your database

cPanel includes a visual database management tool under Databases → Database Management. From there you can browse tables, run SQL queries, and import or export data.
