Most web applications — WordPress, Joomla, WooCommerce — require a MySQL database. Here is how to create and manage databases in cPanel.
Creating a new database
- In cPanel, scroll to the Databases section and click MySQL Databases.
- Under Create New Database, enter a database name (e.g.
mysite) and click Create Database. - Scroll to MySQL Users. Under Add New User, enter a username and strong password, then click Create User.
- Under Add User To Database, select the user and the database you created, then click Add.
- On the privileges screen, click All Privileges, then Make Changes.
Important: cPanel automatically prefixes your database and username with your cPanel account name. If your cPanel username is acme and you create a database called mysite, the actual database name will be acme_mysite. Use this full prefixed name in your application's configuration file.
Browsing and editing your database
cPanel includes a visual database management tool under Databases → Database Management. From there you can browse tables, run SQL queries, and import or export data.
